When I ask myself the question "What do I value?" a couple of things come to mind. As a human being and I value a sense of equality and freedom for everyone. As a woman, I value the opportunity of becoming whatever you want. There are many women who have fought and dedicated their lives to give women certain freedoms that can be attained today. I value women in the workplace as well as women who work at home creating holistic families. As a woman I value freedom, equal opportunities, and leadership. As a Christian, I value a person's ability to experience grace, life-change, and respond to a call to follow Jesus radically. As someone who works in the church, I value the desire to sacrifice everything in order to create spaces for this exact thing to happen in people's lives. I firmly believe that whether you are a doctor, a mailman, or a police officer - you have the power and authority to administer truth about Jesus wherever you go. As Acts 1:8 tells us, we will receive the Holy Spirit, then be sent out to the ends of the Earth.
I deeply value family and friendships. The ability all come together, gather around the table, enjoy the food set in front of us, and experience Jesus with all five of our senses. I value the work Jesus has put in front of me in the local church and the impact that it makes on the next generation. I value justice and believe that every orphan deserves a loving home. I value supporting and empowering people to go out into the nations and declare freedom and justice over the broken-hearted and lost people.
Overall, I would say that my top values are community, justice, truth, and freedom.
I would encourage you to watch the news, read an article, watch the people around you, and see what you are passionate about. What are some of your values? What is going on the world around us that you can use that passion to change?
